Varangian costuming follows some basic guidelines to enable a cohesive unit appearance and to retain historical accuracy within the Russo-Viking, Byzantine mercenary theme. A beginner's kit can comprise dark baggy pants and a forest green basic T-tunic, displaying the Varangian cross if possible. More advanced costuming is expected of longer-term members, and resources are listed below.

For its standard, Varangia uses a symbol carved by a Varangian Guardsman into a rock in Greece. It is a Byzantine cross, completely symmetrical. An image can be viewed in the top banner. Varangia draws the cross in white on a brown background.
